Fifth Street Flower Shop
Pat & Robyn O'Conor
It is nearly closing time and the Fifth Street Flower Shop is bustling: busy hands, feet in motion, bodies jockeying for position and the hum of creative energy at work. The atmosphere feels a little less like a folksy hometown shop and a little more like the trading floor at the New York City Stock Exchange. Owner Pat O’Connor is at work alongside two other designers who are cutting and arranging flowers while his wife Robyn is answering a phone call at her desk in an office that is laden with packages, papers, framed photographs and awards. Jostling for access through the narrow hallway, employees continue to drop off work orders and completed delivery tickets, while in the back the cleanup and sweeping are almost complete. Everyone seems to be on a mission and yet the mood is light.
