Closing reception with artist July 26, noon-1:30 p.m.
The James S. Murray Gallery at Lincoln Land Community College is featuring the ceramic exhibit, “The Living Tributary,” by local artist and LLCC alumnus, Kyle Kirkpatrick July 3-27. The exhibit is open for viewing Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The gallery is located on the upper level of Menard Hall on the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road. A closing reception with the artist will be held Wednesday, July 26 from noon-1:30 p.m. at the gallery.
Kirkpatrick’s love for the ceramic art has its roots in high school art classes. He went on to study ceramics under LLCC’s Michelle Coakes and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from SIU Edwardsville. He continues to study and practice where he can, including some additional time at LLCC.
Kirkpatrick says his work “focuses on an esoteric system of sorts. Not that it cannot be seen, but that it is disguised in our veins, within the duct work.” His artist’s statement is presented in the form of a riddle-like poem. Campus and community members are invited to view the work, read the poem and try to solve the riddle.
