For more than two decades, MERCY Communities has been helping homeless and at-risk families take meaningful steps toward independence. On the evening of Thursday, April 24, 2025, that mission was celebrated in grand style as the nonprofit hosted its annual Power of the Purse fundraiser at the LRS Hangar. With a sold-out crowd of over 400 attendees, the event brought together community leaders, donors, and supporters for a cause that continues to transform lives.
The name Power of the Purse carries layered meaning. While it nods to the classic handbag — a popular feature in the event’s auction — the evening’s theme delves deeper. The purse, as explained during the program, represents empowerment, achievement, and the financial tools necessary for families to build brighter futures.
All proceeds from the evening go directly toward MERCY’s mission: to provide housing and supportive services to families in need. Guests were reminded that their contributions fund not only shelter, but also life skills training and mentorship — crucial steps toward breaking the cycle of poverty. As the photos below reveal, this year’s Power of the Purse was not only a fundraiser, but a powerful testament to community compassion in action.
