The Animal Protective League (APL) is joining over 138 countries worldwide including Canada, The United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and Puerto Rico for the Remember Me Thursday® global awareness campaign.  Candles are lit around the globe on the same day to remember the millions of animals who die in shelters or on the streets without ever knowing the security and love of a permanent home.

From now through September 27th, the official date for Remember Me Thursday®, and with a $5.00 donation, you can upload a picture of your pet and APL will share it in a special Luminary Facebook album.  Please feel free to include a few sentences about your pet, whether a current or past one, explaining why this pet was so special to you.  Your $5 donation, especially when combined with the gifts from others who honor a pet in APL’s special Remember Me Thursday Luminary Facebook album, will help APL continue in its mission to care for sick or injured homeless dogs and cats by raising funds to vaccines, routine medical supplies, and the special drugs needed to combat disease.  Interested supporters can find the link to donate and upload their photo at APL’s Facebook page, APLSpringfield.

“Millions of beautiful, adoptable pets will lose their lives in 2018,” states Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center in California and founder of Remember Me Thursday® which is now in its fourth year. “We all come from different countries, cultures, backgrounds, but together, we can raise our voices and share one life-saving message and literally save millions of pets on this one day.”

APL’s shelter is open every day from noon to 5 p.m. for adoptions.  The organization also coordinates cruelty investigations, humane education programs and operates a low cost spay/neuter clinic adjacent to its Springfield shelter.
