Residents are living fuller lives through art at Concordia Village, a Lutheran Senior Services Life Plan Community in Springfield, Illinois. And they got to share their creative works at the 2023
Resident Art Show recently!

The exhibit featured works created by 15 residents, with each showing three to four pieces. Fellow residents, their families, and Concordia Village team members enjoyed walking through
and seeing the works of arts that included sculpture, oil paintings, acrylics paintings, cards, pottery, quilts, watercolor, and pastels.

Each of the exhibitors comes from a different artistic background, with some novices who are exploring art for the first time to someone who has taught art classes and has sculptures
exhibited in Springfield. “Everyone was welcome to participate and be part of the show,” said Greta Huseman, Director of Community Enrichment at Concordia Village.

Creative expression like making art or music has been shown to improve mental health, encourage brain fitness, and increase joy for older adults. Team members at Concordia Village
are supportive of residents reaping these benefits. “Two of the art pieces were staff-inspired paintings that were made during lunch breaks,” said Greta. “It is so interesting to see their
work. It shows a whole different side to the residents.”
