In partnership with Cricket Wireless to Collect Donations for Weekend Snack Packs

–The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Illinois (BGCCIL) and Cricket Wireless have partnered to host a Summer Kick-Off Event on Saturday, June 6 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Club located at 300 S. 15th Street in Springfield.  This day has been designated for community business partners and local residents to drive-thru and (socially distance) drop off donations for use in filling 10 weeks of Weekend Snack Packs to ensure the Club members have enough food to sustain them during the summer weekends.

“Many Club members rely on our Summer Session programming and meals to get through the months school is not in session,” said BGCCIL CEO Tiffany Mathis. “We are looking to fill 1,000 Snack Packs with a variety of items to make sure they have options on the weekends when the Club is closed.”

Some items on the donation wish list include microwavable meals like; Easy Mac, Soup in a Cup, Ravioli and Ramon Noodles, prepackaged snacks such as; Cheez-Its, peanut butter crackers, boxed cereal, granola bars, beef jerky, pudding packs and more; as well as Gatorade, Capri Suns and bottled water. The event is just one of many food distribution activities Cricket is spearheading in markets across the country throughout the month of June. These initiatives are a part of a Cricket Cares platform, which brings together the company’s community initiatives under one national corporate social responsibility umbrella.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of our community partners, donors, and local agencies during this unprecedented time,” said Mathis. “We genuinely appreciated Cricket Wireless for partnering with us on this event. Thank you also to Mr. Vic Warner and the Walmart Community Grants Team at Store #3210, for awarding BGCCIL with grant funds for this project. Their
contributions will allow us to jump start the donations.”
