The Illinois State Organization Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a dedication of a rose garden at the Governor’s Mansion on May 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.. This gift from the Illinois Daughters was funded for the Illinois Bicentennial. Gloria Flathom, Illinois State Regent, of Oak Lawn will preside over the dedication ceremony. The landscape architect of the renovated grounds, Sue Massie, Massie and Massie Associates of Springfield, will also attend the ceremony.

 

There are 103 chapters in the Illinois State Organization DAR being served by 7 districts. Over 7,700 women are members. Three chapters are located in Sangamon County with approximately 300 members. Nationally, there are approximately 185,000 members from 3,000 chapters in the United States and Washington, D.C. and international chapters from 13 countries.

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) is a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s organization devoted to its mission of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. In addition to being a lineage organization specializing in genealogy, the NSDAR is very involved in service to active duty military and veterans, historical and commemorative events, preserving historical buildings, sites and monuments, serving as docents, educating students at all levels, educating students and citizens about the constitution, educating citizens about the U.S. Flag, participating in naturalization ceremonies, and marking graves of those soldiers, veterans and people who contributed to our nation. NSDAR also recognizes students who show outstanding qualities at the grade and high school level. Citizens who demonstrate exemplary service to the mission are also recognized by the organization.
