A desire to learn has no age limit, and LLCC is showcasing learning opportunities for those ages 50 and older at its Academy for Lifelong Learning summer kickoff. It will be held Wednesday, Aug. 8 from 1-3 p.m. at the Trutter Center on the LLCC-Springfield campus.

With a theme of summer ice escapades, the event includes ice sculptures, a book and puzzle exchange, cool beverages and desserts, icebreaker games and more. ALL’s summer kickoff is free and open to the public, but registration is requested by calling 217-786-2432. Current ALL members should register on WebAdvisor (via the “My LLCC” tab at www.llcc.edu) or by calling 217-786-2292.

A variety of programs and special interest groups are available to ALL members and will be showcased at the event. Programs include one-time lectures or brief series on current events, history, politics, international cultures, art, literature, technology, theatre and music. Interest groups include book lovers, writers, movie groups, game players, golfers, bowlers and bikers.

Nominal fees are charged for popular programs such as Breakfast Roundtable and Wander on Wednesday. During the monthly Breakfast Roundtable, members enjoy breakfast while hearing from a guest speaker on a topic of local interest. In the monthly Wander on Wednesday activities, members visit museums, theatres or historic sites throughout Illinois and neighboring states.

Those attending the summer kickoff event are encouraged to gather information on the many opportunities and activities open to ALL members, ask questions about membership and enjoy the festivities.
