A collaborative production with Cutlass Artists
Lincoln Land Community College, in collaboration with Cutlass Artists, NFP, will hold auditions for “Revenge: Treasure Island” on Sunday and Monday, Feb. 4 and 5, from 7- 9 p.m. in Sangamon South Room 0015 on the LLCC Springfield campus.
“Revenge: Treasure Island” is a world-premiere sequel to “Treasure Island,” which was performed by LLCC in 2016. This new script is written and directed by Mark Hardiman, professor of theatre. It features leading roles for women and men and exciting sword fights throughout. The outdoor production will run May 11, 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 8 p.m. in the Helen Hamilton area near the campus lake.
Following up on the original story in Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale in which a young Jim battles with and outwits pirates, “Revenge: Treasure Island” takes place some years after Jim and crew return to England. Adventure ensues, featuring kidnapping, double-crosses and a ship-to-ship battle.
College students and community members are encouraged to audition. “Just as the original that I adapted two years ago was a young man’s coming of age story, “Revenge: Treasure Island” aims to be a coming of age tale for the present. It empowers women and reveals that collaboration and cooperation between sexes wins the day,” says Hardiman.
LLCC Theatre is committed to education in theatre, emphasizing not only performance but also growth in those involved in the production. Those participating will register for college credit or participate through the LLCC Community Education program.
This collaboration is an extension of the Cutlass Artists NFP mission which is “… to provide meaningful and rewarding artistic opportunities for artists and audiences by building communities of like-minded individuals that demonstrate the value of art in their lives and respect for the artists that create them,” says Hardiman.
