The Samba Llamas began in 1997 as a marching percussion ensemble playing the street rhythms of Brazilian carnival. Over time, the group added vocals, flute, nylon-string guitar, and cavaquinho (a steel-stringed ukulele), and shifted its emphasis to bossa nova and pagodé, a jazz-influenced, indoor style of samba. The Samba Llamas are Chrissy Becker, vocals and percussion; Chas Blythe, guitar; John Blythe, cavaquinho and shorty 12-string guitar; Harris Hatcher, percussion; Lou Humphrey, percussion; and Buddy Rogers, saxophones and flute. Cash bar available.
