Theatre in the Park, at Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site, presents Disney’s The Lion King, Jr. at 8:00 p.m. on May 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 2019. The production is directed by Bob and Maryna Mitchell.

Disney’s The Lion King has captivated the imaginations of audiences around the world, and now this celebrated musical comes to Theatre in the Park. Showcasing the talents of the most talented young performers in Central Illinois, the African savanna comes to life on stage with Simba, Rafiki, and an unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle and back again in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale.

The Music Theatre International(MTI) has developed and designed Broadway productions to suit young actors and their vocal ranges,” explain Maryna Mitchell. “Broadway Junior® musicals are perfect for young actors and singers.”

These 50 young performers are introduced to musical theatre and the joys and challenges of participating in a show,” Bob Mitchell adds. “Launched in 1996 by MTI’s Chairman, Freddie Gershon, Broadway Junior® musicals are condensed, author-approved versions of classic musicals, Disney favorites and modern works that custom-tailored to the needs of young people.”
