The YMCA of Springfield is partnering with the Downtown Farmers Market. Each Wednesday after the farmers market, vendors will be donating their remaining produce to the YMCA of Springfield’s Pop-Up Produce Pantry.  The produce will be FREE to the members of the Springfield Community at Matheny Withrow Elementary School located at 1200 S. Pope Avenue in Springfield from 1:30-3:30 PM. The Pop-Up Produce Pantry is part of the YMCA’s Healthy Community Initiatives. Healthy Community Initiatives is a nationwide movement where community leaders’ partner with Ys to provide access to healthier choices and lifestyles to all. This program will specifically help families put nutritious food on the table by bringing farmers markets with fresh fruits and vegetables to neighborhoods where healthy food options are scarce, giving parents peace of mind when they let their kids walk to school by creating safer routes and keeping a generation of kids healthier by working with schools to increase physical education and physical activity during the school day.
