Horace Mann has awarded Gianna Flammini of Springfield a $10,000 college scholarship as part of the company’s scholarship program for children of employees. Gianna is the daughter of Lisa and Gary Flammini. Lisa is a suitability analyst at Horace Mann.

Gianna graduated from Springfield Southeast High School in June with a GPA of 5.833. She is attending Washington University in St. Louis this fall and is majoring in finance.

“I chose to pursue finance because from a young age I have loved math and numbers,” said Gianna. “I was inspired to set my goal of becoming a CFO when I visited Horace Mann and met the CEO and CFO when I was in elementary school. Ever since then, being a CFO has been my dream job.”

Gianna was Southeast Student Council President and treasurer for the Springfield Mayor’s Youth Council. She participated in National Honor Society, the Southeast Health & Science Academy, the Superintendent’s Student Roundtable and the Sangamon CEO Program. She was captain of the softball team, a cheerleader, a tutor, worked as a cashier at Knight’s Action Park and is currently doing an internship in logistics at Bunn.

Gianna graduated as Salutatorian of her class and Summa Cum Laude. She received various other honors and recognitions including the Tallest Spartan Award; Most Valuable Player, Central State Eight All-Conference Honorable Mention, Central State Eight Athletic-Academic All-Conference (Softball); Central State Eight Athletic-Academic All-Conference (Cheerleading); and the Computer Science Department Award.
