The swearing-in ceremony of Misty Buscher as Springfield’s new mayor was a momentous occasion filled with excitement and anticipation. The event took place in the BOS Center in downtown Springfield at 2pm (May 5th, 2023).

Former Sangamon County Sheriff Neil Williamson was the Master of Ceremonies.  As the ceremony began, the audience was hushed in anticipation. After Melanie Dennison sang the Star Spangled Banner, Rev. Susan Phillips, Pastor of the First Presbyterian, gave the openning prayer.

Next, Justice Lisa Holder White from the Illinois Supreme Court administered the Oath of Office for Misty Buscher who looked poised and ready to assume office.   Following the swearing in of Colleen Redpath Feger as City Treasurer and Frank Lesko as City Clerk, the Aldermen & Alderwomen of all ten Wards took their oath of office.

Mayor Buscher began her speech by thanking her supporters and expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people of Springfield. She spoke of her intentions to encourage non-partisan leadership in our city council and to work to build a better Springfield.

The ceremony closed with Melanie Dennison singing Amazing Grace and Rabbi Mendy Turen from Chabad Jewish Center giving the closing prayer.

Overall, the ceremony was a celebratory and inspiring event, filled with hope and promise for the future of the city under the leadership of Misty Buscher.
