WHEN: Wednesday, May 23 rd – 4:00 pm

WHERE: YMCA – 4550 W. Iles Avenue, Springfield, IL

DESCRIPTION:
ECVI continues to search out opportunities for people who are visually impaired to experience all aspects of music, entertainment, recreation and services that the Springfield community has to offer. We would like to offer people with visual impairments the opportunity to ride the bike trails in Sangamon County by riding a tandem bike. The YMCA has agreed to administer this program and store the bikes on YMCA property which is close to a bike trail with low traffic
patterns. The Capitol Area Career Center and their students are building the shed. Bike Tek has agreed to maintain the bike for a year and provide bike safety tips that will displayed on a poster inside the bike shed. Illinois Assistive Technology (IATP) will provide a tactile map of each bike trail. The goal is to put this information on the YMCA website so everyone can enjoy the experience of riding a tandem bike. In addition, we anticipate that the Convention and Visitors Bureau will post this information on their website so that sighted or visually impaired visitors to the Springfield area can also enjoy this biking experience.
