On Saturday, January 20, 2018, the Springfield Area Arts Council will present Passing Notes: Stories and Songs.  The event is being organized by AMY BENTON, local singer\songwriter.

Time: 7:00 – 9:00 P.M.

Place:  Club Room, Hoogland Center for the Arts [420 S. 6th St., Springfield]

Attendees will enjoy an evening listening to these songwriters share their stories and songs:

SALLY BARRIS – an impressive songwriter from Nashville.  She has written songs for Martina McBride, Kathy Mattea, Ashley Monroe, Kelli Pickler, Lee Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood and others.

AMY BENTON –from Taylorville to Nashville to Springfield.  Her songs have been heard on the legendary WSM and on the Blue Bird stage and on television and radio.

TOM IRWIN – a local legend.  A respected liaison between musicians and their audiences, he has produced enduring recordings and hosted many open mic nights.

Workshop

Getting from Good to Great

Also on January 20th, SALLY BARRIS will present a songwriting workshop.  Participants will learn how to build a song and will get feedback from a Music Row professional.

From Ms. Barris:  “My career as a songwriter has led me to these simple ideas which I share in all of my workshops: to tell the truth, get out of my own way, and approach songwriting like breathing – like an everyday natural occurrence.”
