Thanks to an initiative of the Rotary Club of Springfield, there’s a simple way to fly the American flag on major holidays and days of remembrance. For only $50, individuals and businesses can enroll in the Flag Service Project. Members of Rotary will place a flagpole holder in the ground (properly positioned and coordinated with JULIE – the Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators). Then, Rotarians will install an American flag in advance of Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4 th of July, Labor Day and September 11 Remembrance Day.  A solar light is also included. Rotarians will pick up the flag after the holidays.

The program began in 2016, and now there are over 350 locations participating. Sign up now in time to fly the American flag on Memorial Day – May 28. Encourage friends and neighbors to enroll, too, and help Rotary make our community red, white and blue. A subscription to the Rotary Flag Service Program also makes a great gift.

The simplest way to subscribe is to click on Order Form on the Rotary Flag Service website, www.rotaryflagservice.com. For more information or to place an order, call 217-566- 4326 or send an email to flag@rotaryflagservice.com.

Participating in the Flag Service Project is not only patriotic, but benefits a wide range of local organizations. Proceeds from the Flag Service Project have helped fund the Honor Flight and projects for the Central Illinois Food Bank, Ridgely Elementary School, Senior Services of Central Illinois, Youth Services Bureau and many others. Sign up soon to allow for installation of the flag holder before Memorial Day.
