November 25, 2020 from 3 PM, the YMCA of Springfield is saying goodbye to the Y. This is the final day for the old YMCA. The Y will be closing the doors at 701 S. 4th Street for the last time and getting ready for new beginnings at the new facility. The short ceremony will include a word from CEO, Angie Sowle before she closes the door for the last time. This week members have been asked to provide notes of sentiment on the windows of the building, sign an enlarged photo of the downtown Y which will be framed and brought to the new building or leave a message on the Y tribute wall.  https://www.springfieldymca.org/ymca-tribute-wall/. The new YMCA will open on Monday, November 30.  A ribbon cutting ceremony that was scheduled for December 1 has been postponed due to Tier 3 Mitigations.  A ribbon cutting will take place sometime in 2021. The new facility will be situated in the Enos Park Neighborhood and will bring better health and a greater sense of community to the city of Springfield. This community resource and gathering place will feature several amenities. The project will allow the YMCA to expand its community impact and continue to provide a place of belonging for residents of every age. The YMCA plans to open November 30, 2020.
